Irish Coffee

Irish coffee, please - As the name suggests, this coffee specialty originates from Ireland and is one of the favorites in bars there. But how did the specialty coffee with a shot come about? Restaurant boss Joe Sheridan had his own restaurant at Foynes Airport, now known as Shannon International Airport. When several American travelers were stranded at the airport on a cold winter evening in 1942, he served the frozen passengers coffee with a shot of Irish whiskey and a dollop of cream. He wanted to warm the Americans up with the coffee and cheer them up a little at the same time. The plan worked and that's when the cult drink was born. Nowadays, Irish coffee can be found on international cocktail menus and is not just for frozen passengers. And rightly so, because the drink scores with its mild taste.
