SEVERIN History – 1892 – 1920

1892 – Craftsmanship as golden soil: it all began with a blacksmith’s shop

Anton Severin was born on 01.03.1866 in Völkeringhausen as the second of nine children.

Like his brother, he completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith in his parents’ business.

After his older brother took over the business, he set up his own business in the center of Sundern in 1892, initially repairing machinery and vehicles.

His son Anton Severin Jr. was born on June 20, 1894 and began an apprenticeship as a locksmith when he was old enough to join his father’s business.

1900 – The beginning of an ongoing development

Iron goods have been sold from Sundern to England since 1340. Thanks to the connection to the old Hanseatic city of Soest, it was possible for traders from all over the world to travel to Sundern – along with great new ideas.

Thanks to the Röhrtalbahn, which started its first journey on June 1, 1900, many more regions could now be supplied than just the Sauerland. The company expanded.

In 1914, the First World War began and, like many other men, Anton Severin Jr. had to go to war. This brought the business to a temporary halt.
