- 200 ml milk (or plant-based milk alternative)
- 1-2 tsp honey or sugar (optional)
What is matcha?
Matcha is a traditional Japanese green tea made from specially grown and processed tea leaves. The tea leaves are shaded, harvested, steamed, dried and then ground into a fine powder. This process preserves the nutrients and flavors of the tea, making matcha a particularly healthy and aromatic drink. Matcha is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and provides a gentle, long-lasting source of energy without the typical caffeine kick.
Preparation
- Sieve the matcha powder into a bowl or cup to avoid lumps.
- Add hot water and mix vigorously with a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small whisk until a smooth, frothy consistency is achieved.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan or in the microwave until it is hot but not boiling.
- Slowly pour the hot milk into the bowl or cup with the frothed matcha and stir well.
- Sweeten with honey or sugar to taste and enjoy.
